The news has hit the wires -- Chuck Thacker is this year's Turing Award winner.
I had the great pleasure of getting to know Chuck while I worked at DEC SRC. He's a character, a tinkerer, and a great and curious mind. I think recognizing his work -- the Alto -- is a great choice.

But when is Valiant going to win one of these?
I second the above Anonymous, on both counts...
To the first two anonymous posters:
Nominate Valiant! To the Turing award, to the Knuth prize, to the Goedel prize, whatever...
These things don't happen by themselves, and someone has to prepare the nomination.
Many selection committees lament the lack of quality nominations and would be happy to see more of them.
