Note that foundational work in databases, networks, etc. are all fair game for FOCS/STOC, and indeed the conference has a long history of accepting foundational papers in these areas.Michael Mitzenmacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02161161032642563814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8890204.post-11446051295387400982009-11-02T16:29:28.895-05:002009-11-02T16:29:28.895-05:00Broken link. For example database and networks are part of CS, but I am not aware of any unified and strong theory (in the CS sense) to tie them. Of course you can extract mathematical models from special scenarios in networks, db etc.
Don't you think so?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8890204.post-29101898329408141852009-11-02T15:33:30.232-05:002009-11-02T15:33:30.232-05:00anon #2: the foundations of CS are implicitly theo...anon #2: the foundations of CS are implicitly theoretical, but the same cannot be said of all innovations in cs.

(possibly bad?) example from a different field: physics and mathematics provide the foundations of say mechanical engineering. but there are innovations in mech. e. which are specific to engineering.Sashohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09380390882603977159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8890204.post-39785256399155275412009-11-02T15:28:35.085-05:002009-11-02T15:28:35.085-05:00Michael,
